Carved from a dense hardwood, this Nyamwezi staff is surmounted by a female figure, her arms resting alongside her stomach. Her body is adorned with a series of finely executed circle-and-dot designs, a traditional symbol of protection.
The shaft of the staff features a lizard, its head directed towards the feet of the female figure.
