Chieftain stools from the Ndengereko Culture of central Tanzania are distinct, as in this early example, with their half-loop configurations that connect from the seat to supporting legs.
Such stools are rare and over the years this is one of the few examples I have handled. What is also interesting about this particular stool is its multiple traditional restorations to the curved supports and to the surface of the seat. All these restorations are traditional and are a testament to the importance placed with such a important stool. Carved from a hard dense wood the surface is errored and worn.
