This Chokwe/Luvale mask from the border region of Zambia and Angola displays an amazingly powerful expression. With its high cheekbones and strong, monkey-like jaws, the mask exhibits great primal features. Fine facial scarification markings, located on the forehead and below each cheek, adorn the surface of the mask.
Early glass beads further decorate the mask's forehead region, and finely shredded strips resemble a woman's coiffure. The mask exhibits signs of extensive wear with a sticky, oily surface patina.
