19th Century Dogon Figure, Mali (Ex Walter Terschwel Collection)

P.O.R

19th Century Nommo Figure. Dogon Culture, Mali

With its arms raised to the sky, this fine early Dogon figure displays a characteristic gesture of Dogon Nommo sculptures, which have been said to indicate the communication between the earth and heaven during prayers for rain.

The figure exhibits a weathered surface, with a missing area below the torso as a result of erosion and age. An old label is attached to the base of the figure.

Ex Walter Terschwel Collection, Germany

Estimated Period: 19th Century
