Ashanti Prestige Stool Depicting an Elephant, Ghana

£950

Early 20th Century Prestige Stool Depicting an Elephant. Ashanti Culture, Ghana

This fine early stool depicts an elephant - an Ashanti symbol of power and strength. Carved from a heavy brown wood, this large, impressive stool had a spiritual meaning alongside its functional use. In Ashanti society, it is custom for every man and woman to have their own stool, which also served as the seat of the owner's soul.
