This Makonde mask depicts a fine-featured face with a lip adornment and exaggerated ears and down-cast eyes. Natural pigments have been used to colour the surface of the mask. The front (and also the back) of the mask exhibits a worn surface in parts, which is particularly prevalent around the top of the nose and the lip area.
